Self-harm is often a way to release that internal build-up of pressure and cope with overwhelming distress. It can also be a way of feeling something, anything, if you feel numb or dissociated, as that emptiness can feel bleak too. In therapy we would explore your history and reasons as to why this behaviour first began. There is nothing we can’t speak about in therapy, no need for embarassment. It can help to release that pressure in a more productive way and provide you with healthier coping mechanisms through expression and self-care.
