Self-esteem and Confidence

Everyone has a presenting self, which can be useful for professional situations.

Self-harm is often a way to release that internal build-up of pressure and cope with overwhelming distress.

A person’s sexuality is as unique as the intricacies of your personality.

Amanda Wells

Counselling, Psychotherapy & Wellbeing Coach
The experiences we go through in life can feel traumatic.  Whether that trauma was man made and deliberate (sexual abuse, violence), unintentional or accidental (vehicle accidents, diasters or emotional deprivation from caregivers) or natural disasters and whether experienced, witnessed or learned about – ALL can have a profound impact on the trauma response in our brains.
Fully healing from post traumatic symptoms or PTSD and the plethora of symptoms is wholly possible.

I can help you to understand and diminish the physical, psychological and emotional effects of your trauma, explore the relationship you have with yourself and others, disect the past and take the power out of the memories.   I can share with you over 20 years worth of practical tools and knowledge, as well as fully emotionally processing your memories to help remove limitations and blockages, so that you can move forward, achieve your dreams, live a life that authentically reflects your deepest desires, values, needs and wants and more importantly, do so with internal peace.

What does therapy involve?

Therapy with me is different to many talking therapies due to my area of specialism. To heal complex trauma and PTSD, it's very important to be thorough and to use a variety of techniques to fully process emotional trauma. It's important to ensure that you have emotional regulation and stabilisation skills and tools during the ground work, which will build you up and enure that you're as ready as you can be to go towards the more difficult topics in therapy, which is essential for long lasting growth.

Our work together begins with a full assessment, history, lifeline creation and trauma interviews, diagnostic tools checking levels of depression, anxiety and PTSD. I provide psychoeducation throughout, safety and stabilisation techniques, emotional regulation work and then onto trauma memory processing and somatic work, accompanied. I also use a cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES), a device proven to reduce anxiety, depression, pain and insomnia. I'm qualified in a range of treatments. For more details on the treatment processes, please click here.

Therapy and facing your past isn't easy but it is worth it. Imagine living life without the symptoms you battle with. We can thoroughly support your healing journey and you can grow, change and end therapy feeling empowered, peaceful and strong.

The most important relationship in your life is the relationship that you have with yourself because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself

Thanks to all of your care and techniques, I am feeling SO much better and back to my old positive self. What a relief! I can't thank you enough for all of your care and understanding. I was in such a dark horrible place and thanks to you I feel as though my world is bright again. You're a complete and utter star.

M Minker, 54

Amanda helped me see that the feelings of anxiety and depression are a symptom of my thoughts – both conscious and subconscious and ow my brain interprets day-to-day events in auto-pilot. A lot of these thoughts are a load of rubbish.
She also taught me that ‘rewiring’ your brain back to rational, healthy thoughts is simply a matter of embedding new thinking ‘habits’. Like a muscle, it will be weak at first, but with repetition it will start to become stronger and more natural.

Jen, age 45

I was dreading working on my childhood.  Amanda eased me in and gave me lots of methods to help me feel in control.  Bit by bit we worked on flashbacks that have haunted me for years and slowly they stopped shouting at me, like all they wanted was for me to say them out loud.  She helped me to understand the different stages and how my body has reacted all of these years. She made me feel like anything was possible and I definitely wasn't alone. I'm truly grateful for her support - its been life changing.

Cassie D, 34Trauma Recovery Work

I liked therapy with Amanda, I didn't know what to expect really.  But it helped me to understand my anxiety so that I could handle my exams at school better and I could talk about bullying.  I learned breathing techniques and do a lot more things that make me feel better.  Now I hardly feel ever feel anxious.
